Halo privacy policy
Last updated: 31 October 2026
Halo is a shared calendar for two people. It's built entirely on Apple's own services. There is no Halo server, no account to create with us, no advertising and no analytics. We (the developer) can't see your plans, notes, places or photos.
Where your information is kept
- On your iPhone (and Apple Watch). Your plans, ideas, special dates, places, notes and memories are stored on your device.
- In your iCloud. To share them with your partner, Halo uses Apple's CloudKit. Everything is kept in your own iCloud account and shared only with the one person you invite. Plan details, notes and places are stored in CloudKit's encrypted fields, which Apple encrypts so that only your and your partner's devices can read them. Surprise details stay in the planner's private iCloud until they're revealed.
- Nothing is sent to the developer or to any third party.
What Halo uses, and why
Each of these is optional and asked for only when you use the feature:
- Location: to find places near you, work out travel times, and (only when you tap "On my way") share your arrival time with your partner. With Date Night Mode turned on, Halo notices when you arrive at and leave the stops you planned, to ask how each one was. Your location isn't stored or sent anywhere except the arrival time you choose to share.
- Calendars and Reminders: to import plans you choose and to send checklist items to Reminders. Read on your device.
- Photos: to suggest photos from a date. Only the photos you pick are saved with that date and shared with your partner.
- Camera: to scan your partner's pairing code.
- Face ID: to lock the app, if you turn that on. Halo never sees your face data.
- Notifications and alarms: for reminders, your partner's updates and "time to leave" alarms.
Apple services Halo uses
- Apple Maps for place search, addresses and travel times.
- WeatherKit for forecasts on outdoor plans.
- Apple Intelligence for date suggestions and itinerary ideas. It runs on your device, or on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which Apple doesn't store or share. Halo only sends it what's needed for the suggestion, such as kinds of places and free evenings.
These are covered by Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
Diagnostics
Halo keeps a short diagnostic log on your device to help fix problems. It never leaves your phone unless you choose to share it from Settings › Help › Diagnostics. Crash reports are sent only if you've allowed Apple to share them with developers.
Your choices
- Stop sharing with your partner at any time: Settings › Partner › Disconnect Partner Device.
- Export a copy of your data from Settings › Your Data.
- Delete the app to remove its data from your device. To remove the shared iCloud data too, stop sharing first, or manage Halo's storage in Settings › [your name] › iCloud.
Children
Halo isn't intended for children under 13.
